Fly…735 – The Album Is Here!

Posted By admin / January, 1, 2013 / 0 comments

It’s quite a surreal moment right now. I’m chillin here in the studio with my brother KinG!, and we’re finally about to drop the album. Three years after we first began, and it’s finally here! My heart is pretty full right now…I have a lot on my mind. So, I’m gonna head out now and go ring in this New Year lol, but I wish you all the best in the upcoming year. Thank you all for your support, and if you love what you hear, please tell a friend to tell a friend. I hope that my album and my story can incite some fire in all of your minds and your hearts. In 2013, make the effort to be everything that you are meant to be. Strive. And learn to love each other, regardless. From the bottom of my heart, I love you…

Fly…735 – My Debut Album

Fly…735

The release of my debut album!  Half of yall are probably thinking, “You’s a damn lie!” lol…but this is the real deal Holyfield this time (E Sie…I hear you snickering all the way from Syracuse.  Shut that shit up lol).  NO MORE pushbacks haha.  I’m actually not even able to push it back anymore because the album has already been mastered.  That’s probably a good thing haha.

My partner in crime is Keith Rice (aka. KinG!).  He’s the producer…I’m the writer.  We recorded this entire album in his bedroom over the last 3.5 years.  You can check out more of his production at kingthee.bandcamp.com

After 3.5 years of recording for this album, I selected 18 songs that best expressed my thoughts and feelings on life and love.  I hope you all are able to better understand your own journeys in conjunction with mine when you hear the stories.  This album is like a series of vignettes.  Straight from the heart.  From the soul.  Life has shown me so many different faces…many of them ugly lol and some of them beautiful.  Perhaps you’ve seen many of the same?

On 01.01.13, we’ll find out…

“Lookin at my rollie, it’s about that time…”

Here I am, at the corner of Orange Drive and Hollywood Blvd.

On March 25th, 2008…I got dropped off at night in this exact same spot.

But I wasn’t smiling then.

Frozen in fear…no lie.  I was scared.

But that was the decision I had made.  I was 19 then.  I had just given up my academic scholarship to one of the top universities in the country.  I had saved $2,000 from my job before I quit.  For $99, I purchased a one way ticket, Flight 735 from Virginia to Los Angeles…and I just left.  Two suitcases, a backpack, and a duffle bag. ::cues Bag Lady…well, Bag Brother lol::  I didn’t have any friends or family in California.  Hell…prior to this, I hadn’t been further west than Virginia itself lol.  But I had my faith…and a belief in myself and my talent.  And quite honestly, that’s ALL I had at the time.  But that’s what has brought me here this far…

Here we are almost 5 years later.  I’m 24 now.  I’ve been through a lot.   Understatement of the year lol.  But look…I’m more than content with the way everything has turned out.  Each year of this journey has taught me more about life than I ever could have imagined.  I now understand my purpose and I know what contributions I wish to make to the world with my life and with my music.  And I’m determined to fulfill those dreams and ensure that one day, they will become reality.  That’s what we all should be doing.  What we are passionate about.  The things that we love…

The best part is…I captured that entire process with my man Keith (KinG!), and in 2013, we’re bringing you some real passion and real honesty musically, as well as lyrically.  He produced the entire album.  I wrote it.  Thank you for joining us on this journey as we all seek to discover our true selves and live our lives to the fullest.  Self-Actualization.  It’s attainable.  But you have to want it.

Before I end this long ass 1st blog entry lol…I gotta show some maaajor love to a few incredibly talented people that helped me put this together.  Thanks to them, I’m able to present this music the way I really wanted to visually.  Also thanks to them, I’m broke as hell right now, but you gotta do what you gotta do right haha :) .

Gordon Lake – I’ve been trying to get a website for years now (“broke, broke, broke, phi broke…we ain’t got it!”) and thanks to my good friend Aaron, I was linked to Gordon.  He can make a dope website with his eyes closed. and for a great price at that.  For more about his multimedia work, visit www.gordonlakeproductions.com

Jhana Parits – I’ma just call her Los Angeles’ best kept secret lol.  She’s a beast.  We did a great shoot for the album and most of those pics are right here on the site, including the Home page.  Follow her on Twitter @itsjhana

Robert Patin – We did a great photoshoot out in Hollywood.  Very talented cat…you can see more of his work at www.RobertPatin.com

Michael Rosenberg – He directed the 3 episode mini-doc on the website (Check The Tape) about my transformation and the making of my album.  It really captures a lot of pivotal moments in the process.  Go check it out!  You can reach him at michaelkenyonrosenberg@yahoo.com

Much more is on the way.  More singles, more videos, and more random ass blog posts.  I guess I’ma let yall into my crazy world.  Well, just a little bit.  Some might not be ready for all that quite yet lol…

Peace and Love,

David Vines
